Storyboard Movie

After we had created a script, shot list and storyboard for each individual scene in our production, we created a storyboard movie for the whole film, this is to give an idea of what our finish product will look like and to show/ give an example of a range of different camera angles that we intend to use in our production.

As our film is a drama with a target of 'pulling on your heartstrings' we have named our production company 'heartstrings productions.'

I have done this by using my knowledge and skills i have using photoshop. I have taken a worn paper effect and taken down the opacity to create the vintage look. I then added our company name in simple caps so the image is easily readable and added a bevel and emboss to form the shadow on the texts as though it has been hand calved. 

This is the final product and i am very pleased i have achieved the look i was aiming for!

Example of Time Passing Sequence

Our film contains a time passing sequence which shows the two characters Molly and Alfie falling in love and the development of their relationship. This is a common occurrence in Romance films as it creates an image of a strong close relationship between two characters before the climax of the film. Here i am looking at the time passing sequence in the film Beastly which is a Romantic Drama.

This is where Lindy and Kyle first meet, the scene shows Kyle hiding beneath his hood which tells the audience he is shy and insecure. Music is playing in the backgroung very quietly.

This is the first time Kyle and Lindy go on a date and he takes her to a rose garden. The volume of the music increases and the dialog stops.

The film then cuts to the couple reading poetry in the same rose garden but we see a time difference as the roses are no longer blooming and there is snow outside on the ground. This tells the audience the couple have been seeing each other from the end of summer through to winter giving the audience an image of their long term relationship.

This medium shot shows what the couple are looking at. This is the scene where the couple break in to a zoo together and watch a film. This creates excitement for the viewer as well as the dim light making the scene feel romantic.

This is the final scene in the sequence which shows Lindy asleep on Kyle which tells the audience she trusts him and their relationship is close. As the sun rises in the scene the music becomes quieter to signify the ending of the relationship.




In romantic films the time passing sequences build up a false sense of security with an audience before something happens to tear the couple apart. We have used this structure in our film. We also used a similar technique to Beastly by using the same location, by the lake, but showing the couple first in big winter coats in dark cold weather first meeting and then later with t shirts on hugging in the sun to show the audience how much their relationship has advanced.

Example of Time Passing Sequence

In order to show a range of shots of Molly and Alfie together, we liked the idea of using a time passing sequence as a way of showing the couple spending time together as there relationship grows and as they fall in love. From researching into a range of romantic time passing sequences, we liked the idea of using a clip from the film UP, despite this film being animated it gives an example of a range of camera angles and shots used to show the couple as a pair. In this particular film the female protagonist character Ellie is diagnosed at the hospital, then as time goes by, passes away. Similar to our production this film shows the pain the male progtagonist character Carl goes through when the one he loves is taken from him. From watching this scene, I have selected a range of shots that show the couple together and then apart.

Shot 1 -  Shot of the couple in the church as they get married and are about to spend the rest of there life together.
Shot 2 - This Close up shows   couple as they make there new home personal by writing both there names on the letter box, this shot gives an example of the couple doing something simple yet makes them happy.
Shot 3 - This shows the couple as they have a romantic date together in the park.
Shot 4 - Shot of the couple as they sit at home holiding hands which expresses there love for one another.
Shot 5 - Shot of the couple as they hang a picture up of the house which both of them would love to live.
Shot 6 - Shot of the couple as they are now old and have grown this way with one another.
Shot 7 - Ellie is laid in the hospital bad, as Carl kisses her forehead, this shows that Ellie is now ill and the couple will no longer be together forever
Shot 8 - Lone shot of Carl as he sits at Ellies funeral, he is now alone due to the one who he loves passing away.

This particular film is useful to show the couples relationship as it uses a range of simple to shots to empahsies the couple spending time together as they grow old and empahasises how alone Carl is once Ellie, the one who he was meant to be with forever, dies.

Tricky Shots

Sunset Scene - The shots during the sunset scene will be difficult because of the light. When shooting in to light the character will be back lit.

 

also the rain scene might be difficult to film because of water getting on the lense. We experienced this during our first year film where rain drops obscured the view.
