Progress Report

I now have a total of 32 posts on our blog, these are steadily increasing as we edit and feedback on our production. In my opinion we have progressed well with our film as we now only have scenes 3,6 and 9 to film until our production is completed. Despite technical difficulties when filming the other scenes, we are pleased with how the film has turned out, we have used a range of shots and camera angles throughout and editing our film together has proven to be challenging yet we have adapted and worked well to complete the production of Tea, Coffee and Cancer.

Progress Report

I feel that we have made sufficient progress so far with the filming of our production. We have just filmed scenes 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10. We still have scenes 3 and 9 to film which are the scenes at Alfie's house and scene 6 which is the car scene, which we will do in the upcoming few days. We have experienced some technical difficulties whilst filming but we have managed to overcome these and we are fairly pleased with what we have filmed and edited so far. Hopefully we will be just as pleased with the final product once we have filmed everything, edited it all and added the soundtracks.

Progress Report

I feel we are on track with our film at this point. Today we filmed half of our film sufficiently and produced the right shots by using our shooting pack. I felt well prepared when we began to film due to our excessive planning of shot list, costume and script. The scenes were rehearsed until satisfactory then filmed. The research i did in to films of the same genre helped us during filming as we knew the conventions and techniques which we implemented in ours.

Left to do is film the scenes with Molly and Alfie, edit and add soundtracks. We also need to re-take the poster photographs using our new actor and create the final poster. We have kept to schedule and should finish with plenty of time to the deadline leaving ourselves time incase a problem occurs.

Progress Report

So far on our blog I have done a total of 19 posts. These include research into similar films as ours, genre, film certificates and character profiles for the characters in our film. We still have the filming to complete as the deadline is shortly approaching but I feel we have made successful progress so far with our blog work and with the knowledge and understanding we have gained from previous research tasks to do with our film, I feel that we will be able to successfully finish the filming with no major issues or concerns.

Progress Report

So far on our blog I have completed a total of 24 posts, these give examples of similar films, genres, show the types of shots we want to use in our production and in all give a clear example of the romantic genre of our film and what the completed production will be like.
Despite having completed these posts we still need to have finished filming as the deadline is the 5th of February. The progress we have made has been successful as we have competed many of the post production tasks which enables us to have a wider knowledge and understanding of what Tea, Coffee and Cancer will be as a final product.

Poster Idea

This poster idea includes images of both the main characters Molly and Alfie as they sit by the lake. These pictures show the two characters as a couple due to them sat within each others arms, which expresses the loving side to the two. The lake is one of the main locations used in our production and would be useful to use in our film poster as many of Molly and Alfie's romantic dates revolve around spending time together by the lake in the sunshine and in the cold, therefore using these images would not only relate to the context of the film, but expresses the romantic genre of the production.

These two images of the couple show the beautiful landscape that surrounds the two, the couple look in love, surrounded by a simple yet pretty area that at same time looks realistic. The images being picturesque yet simple relate to the romance and dramatic genre and therefore would be ideal for a Tea, Coffee and Cancer film poster.

Poster Idea

After researching different film posters that share the same genre as our film (romantic drama) and learning what elements, techniques and styles they all use, I decided to propose a few of my own ideas showing that I have a full understanding of what film posters that share the same genre as our film require in order for it to grab people's attention.

With this poster I used my knowledge which I had gained from observing previous romantic drama film posters and used an image of both of the characters together (a common feature used in romantic drama film posters). I added a slightly warmer yet pale effect to it in order to show the softness which represents the couple's relationship and used a pale white, simple font and placed it slightly over the two characters in order to contrast against their darker clothing, which represents the darker aspect to the film and expresses the problems both characters have.

With this poster, I decided to incorporate the knowledge which I had gained from observing the film poster to Romeo and Juliet, which features a large image of both of the characters at the bottom of the poster in a sort of split screen. I used a similar image of both characters looking down as I felt with these images that due to the characters not looking straight ahead, it could possibly signify them having dark secrets and problems without giving too much away to the audience but also show that they share a close relationship due to them being side by side in a split screen. Again, I used the same effect as on the previous poster and the same style and colour of font.

Poster Photographs

Due to a change in cast we had to re-take our poster photo's. This is the shot we decided to use in our final poster as it tells a lot about the characters. Firstly Molly and Alfie are sat apart to show their differences, they are also looking away from one another to create anticipation for the viewer as they will want to know what will happen with the two characters. Molly is looking to the ground to show her timid and shy personality and Alfie is looking away smirking showing his arrogant yet charming character.

Poster Photographs

For our film poster we are going to use split photo's with Molly on one side and Alfie on the other. This photo illustrates Molly's side of the landscape poster. We've chosen to photograph her in the snow because we think it is fitting to her story and role in the film. The cancer is a cold miserable part of her life. We plan to photograph Alfie in the sunshine sitting on the other side of the bench to show he is the light in her life.

This photo will  be used for the portrait poster, in this we have decided to swap the roles and make Molly happy in this one. Her open posture gives the impression she is a bright, friendly and cheerful character and when Alfie is photographed next to her he will have a miserable stature to mirror his darker emotions, whereas Molly's reflects her optimism.

Poster Research

For our production, we had been set the task of creating our own film poster. In order to do this, we decided to research into film posters of the same genre as ours, which is romantic drama, and I decided to focus on the film posters for the films Titanic, Remember Me and Romeo and Juliet. I found that for all of these posters, the similarity which they all share is the fact that they all use an image of the two lovers in the film together to portray the romance which the film will be about.

For the film poster for Titanic, the main image is of the two lovers with the male character wrapping his arms around the female character. This shows the romance side to the film as the audience can instantly tell they are in love and shows that these two characters are the two main protagonists and the film will be focused on them. There is also an image of the boat Titanic underneath the image of the two protagonists and the audience are able to gather that the film is a fictionalized account of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Due to the image of the boat, the audience will know that there will be some kind of tragedy in the film and also because of the two protagonists' expressions being very serious, which adds to the drama side. The title of the film has been overlapped on the image of the boat and is used in a simple, white font against the dark colour of the boat. These two colours contrast together and therefore stand out which makes it more likely that the audience will look at the poster as it is eye catching.

For the film poster for Remember Me, again there is a central image of the two lovers in the film close together and again, shows that they are the two protagonists, which shows the romantic side to the film. The poster is in black and white which is instantly eye catching as it stands out. The two lovers in the film both have connections with family deaths, as the male character's brother has committed suicide and the female character's mother has been murdered, and so with the title of the film being used in red, this could possibly signify blood/danger due to their deaths, which shows the drama side to the film.

The film poster for Romeo and Juliet is quite different when compared to the previous two. This poster doesn't use one main image of the two protagonists but instead uses two small images at the top of the poster and another two images used underneath of both of the protagonists (with one of these including another character from the film). With each of these images, a single word has been placed on each image with the use of an ampersand in between the two images at the top and underneath so the poster reads like 'hope and despair', 'tragedy and love' and the last image being slightly larger than the previous ones showing the two lovers but in a sort of split screen so the poster finally reads as 'Romeo and Juliet'. The font colour for the captions is in white, which contrasts against the dark images, instantly standing out. There is also the use of red font, similarly to Remember Me, which again could possibly indicate blood/danger as both of the protagonists die in the film.

Poster Research

For our film we need to create a poster. In order to aid this creation i am going to look in to posters of films in the same genre.

This is the film poster for the romantic drama beastly. The poster shows the two character looking in to each others eyes showing the audience their close relationship. The characters have one side of their faces lit and the other in darkness suggesting a darker secret. The title is in a bright blue colour to stand out as the title. It shows the two lead actors names in medium font as this will be a selling point of the film having two hollywood actors in it. The strap line at the top of the poster 'love is never ugly' suggests a small amount of the story in that the characters are in love despite the male on the right being ugly. The lightest part of the poster is the girls cheek which draws the eye there immediately then down her neck to the title, across to the male character and finally up to the slogan. This is a good arrangement as it leads the eye all over the poster.

Poster Research

After researching a range of film posters that are similar genre to the romantic, tragedy genre of our production, I found that a common feature used to advertise the film as a romance/ tragedy is the use of the two main characters in love as the main image.

The central image for both 'A
Walk To Remember' and 'Dear John' shows the two main characters as a couple being intimate with one another, this not only draws the audience in but expresses the romantic theme. The male character with his arm around the girl, expresses he is sort of protecting her and will always be there for her as she holds onto him and sits in his arms.
The purpose of the poster is to advertise the film as a romance and generate the idea that the film is a love story.
Neutral warm colours such as oranges, yellows and white are used on both these posters which express that the films are revolved around heart warming stories involving the two characters and there love for one another.

The 'Notebook' poster's central image of the couple in one another's arms express the love the two characters have for one another, the image of the characters faces in an almost kiss shows the passion and emotion felt as they hold one another in the rain. The rain adds to the effect as it looks romantic, appeals to the senses and shows the couple are unaware of the cold as they are too in love with one another to care that the rain is pouring down.
The purpose of the poster is to show that the film is a romance and portray that its a love story.

The 'P.S I Love You' poster's main image shows the couple lying together as he whispers into the girl ear, this not only shows the couple being intimate but shows how close the couple are due to being in love, both the characters look happy and content lying with one another.  Similar to other romance genre films, the girl is one again laid in the male characters arms to show she is dependant on him and feels safe lying in his arms.
The simply written text at the bottom saying the title of the film looks handwritten generating the effect that its more personal and matches the genre as romance is about being close and intimate.
The purpose of the poster is to advertise the film as a love story and express the romantic genre.
