Research Into Genre

Our film falls into the drama/reality category, which involves realistic characters and situations. The main themes that this particular genre of film relate to include alcoholism, drug addiction, sexuality, corruption, illness/sick health, religious prejudice and class divisions. There are many sub genre's of drama films for example, romance films, periodic films, crime films and tragedy films are all related to the drama/reality category. Many of these films are based around real life events and situations, therefore have a huge impact on the audience as they can relate to what is happening in the production. As a result drama productions generate a sense of emotion that necessarily isn't as easy to relate to as in such genre of film as fantasy or horror.

Drama's usually concentrate mainly on a character or characters at a crucial moment in their lives, whether they are facing conflict with the outside world or a battle within. Many Dramatic films end in tragedy or heartbreak, this can be due to the events that unfold within the film or due to that in real life not everything has a happy ending, therefore dramatic productions generate a feeling of sorrow to ensure they relate to the real world.

- My Sister's Keeper - 2009 -
Storyline: The main character Anna, looks to earn medical emancipation from her parents, who have relied upon her and her body parts to keep their leukaemia-stricken daughter, Kate alive.

- Philadelphia - 1993 -
Storyline:When Andrew Beckett a lawyer, with Aids gets fired by a conservative law firm due to his condition, he hires a homophobic small time lawyer to defend his case. Ironically they become friends, but tragically due to his illness Andrew dies, leaving his friend heartbroken and determined to win his case.

- Pure - 2002 -
Storyline: A young boy trying to deal with his mothers heroin addiction, befriends a waitress who helps him through the tough situation.

- Dear John - 2010 -
Storyline: A young solider falls for a young girl, when he is home for the summer on leave, after spending the summer together, being separated when he has to go back in the army, takes it toll on the couple and there relationship.
